The golden rain tree is a drought resistant shade tree that is known for its sprays of yellow flowers in summer. The flowers are followed by fruit that are air-filled capsules resembling Japanese lanterns. The fruit changes from green to yellow and then to a fleshy, almost pink color.

It is a mid sized tree that does well in arid environments and tolerates being planted in a lawn or by itself. At maturity, the Golden rain tree will grow to a height of 15 to 25 feet and spread to 15 to 25 feet. This species grows at a medium to fast rate, and you can expect a height increase of 13 to 24 inches per year.
